Home Visits

Home visits are carried out by GPs only – those requiring a home visit for Nursing care should make a telephone appointment with a GP to arrange a referral to the Community Nursing service.

Patients eligible for home visits are those that would be unable to make a hospital appointment without hospital transport. Limited mobility / lack of transport etc. does not necessarily make you eligible for a home visit.

All visits are carried out at the discretion of the GP – if your records indicate you can leave your home (even if this is with help), you may be asked to make a face-to-face or phone appointment.

The GP may call you before visiting to ascertain whether a visit is really required. If you do not require an examination, the GP may carry out a phone appointment instead.

If you require a home visit, please contact the surgery before 12.15pm.

Visits normally take place after morning surgery has finished (approx. 12.00pm). The surgery is not a rapid response service. If you think you need to be seen before 12.00pm, we would suggest calling 111.

Visits requested after 12.15pm will be dealt with by the GP dealing with those patients who need to be seen urgently that day – the visit may be deferred until the next working day.
